The third generation BMW X6 has been launched in India at a price of ₹95 Lacs

The X6 will be offered in 2 trims, xLine and M Sport, and both these variants are equipped with a 3.0 litre engine

BMW has launched the steroided third generation X6 in the Indian market, at Rs 95 lakhs (ex-showroom). The coupe like suv was originally supposed to land on the Indian shores in the first few months of 2020, but the Coronavirus pandemic delayed the launch. Now that it is finally here, it will be locking horns with vehicles such as the Audi Q8, Mercedes Benz GLE and Porsche Cayenne Coupe. Does the X6 have in it the figures and features to take on these kind of SUVs, let’s find out.

The exteriors of the 3rd generation X6

The coupe like silhouette of the new X6 has been maintained, however there are a few observable changes. The front fascia now sports a much larger kidney grille (the BMW grilles keep growing, don’t they?) but this grille is no ordinary grille. As an option, you could opt for the ‘Illuminated Kidney Grille’ and this is the first time that a feature like this has been provided by BMW. So you could keep your DRLs and Illuminated Kidney Grille on if you want to make a significant impression to someone. Talking about the lights, the headlamps are fitted with LED headlights as standard, but you could equip the optional Laserlight, which has selective beam and a high beam function which throws light upto 500 meters. The rear has quite the polarizing design, with the wide pushed up tail lights, fake vents and dual exhausts. The rear does look quite busy, and naturally it is going to garner a lot of subjective opinions in this respect.

The interiors of the 3rd generation X6

If you have entered a BMW from recent times, then this would feel like a familiar space to be in. A neat modern cabin, filled with all the advanced technological gadgetry that one would want. Soft touch materials, metal accents, fine glass applications and plush upholstery make the interior feel very upmarket. The cabin has been designed in quite a driver-oriented fashion, and this can be proven, as the 12.3 inch infotainment system has been angled towards the driver. Furthermore, the vehicle makes use of a fully digital 12.3 inch instrument cluster, BMW’s well known HUD, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lightning, tyre pressure monitor system, wireless charging and many other features. One particular feature which needs to specifically mentioned is the ‘Temperature Controlled Cup holders’ which can be altered to make sure beverage stays cool or hot.

The powertrain of the 3rd generation X6

The 2020 X6 is brought to life by a V6 3.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine which produces 340 ps and 450 nm of torque. This engine is coupled with an 8 speed automatic transmission which sends power to all 4 wheels, using BMW’s xDrive four-wheel drive system. The new X6 will run down 0-100 in just 5.5 seconds, which makes it quite very fast.

Safety features of the 3rd generation X6

I always say, with great speed comes great responsibility, which infers 2 kinds of responsibilities. The driver driving must be responsible, and the brand which has made the vehicle, should ensure that the vehicle is well equipped with respect to safety. The X6 makes use of 8 airbags, ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) and EBD (Electronic brakeforce Distribution), ESC (Electronic Stability Control), front and rear parking sensors and traction control.

The trims available on the 3rd generations X6

The 2 variants available on the new X6 are the xLine and M Sport. The variants are differentiated by the features offered, the xLine gets distinctive sports seats, a sports leather steering wheel, an Adaptive 2-axle Air Suspension and 20-inch alloy wheels. The M variant on the other hand gets a ‘M’ styled steering wheel and sport seats, performance oriented features such as M Sport Brakes, M Sport exhaust system, Adaptive M Suspension, M aerodynamics package and 20-inch M light alloy wheels.

Colours available on the 3rd generation X6

The 2020 X6 has an exhaustive list of colour options, which would surely confuse the buyer. Here are the colours, Riverside Blue Metallic, Carbon Black, Manhattan Metallic, Artic Grey, Mineral White, Flamenco Red Brilliant Effect, Sophisto Grey Brilliant Effect, Black Sapphire and Alpine White. If you are interested in something more unique, then you could very well opt for the Tanzanite Blue Metallic shade or BMW Individual Ametrine Metallic.

The rivals of the 3rd generation X6

The X6 will be battling the Audi Q8, Mercedes Benz GLE, Porsche Cayenne Coupe and Lexus RX. These gargantuan sized vehicles are all equipped to the brim, look great and have powerful engines as well. Will the X6 be able to take on the heat, or will it bring the heat on these competitors, time will tell.
