Well another week, another Volkswagen leak. This time around it’s the new VW Polo is spotted with minimal camouflage revealing its design details. The German automaker released a teaser of the hatchback just a few days back and is set for a global reveal on April 22. And for all my Indian audience, yes the world is getting a facelift of the new Polo which hasn’t even launched in India yet. It feels like the new Polo had just arrived but it launched back in 2017 so it is due for an update.
The leaked image shows a silver Polo with a new grille and sharply designed bi-LED headlamps. Just below the headlamps, there is an illuminated LED strip running across the front grille which has been shown by VW in the recently launched teaser. The rear section has also gone through slight revision and now comes with new VW Golf inspired LED taillamps and an updated bumper.
The images don’t contain any interior shots of the new 2021 Volkswagen Polo. But we expect the cabin to come with all the bells and whistles of the current design language going on in the current VW line-up. It is likely to get a newly-designed dashboard along with a new and larger touchscreen infotainment system offering multiple connected features. The higher trim might get a fully digital instrument cluster as well. There’s also a rumor that the new Polo could be equipped with a Level 2 semi-autonomous system (Well, that will surely give it an edge over the competition).
Talking about the powertrain, we expect it to retain the standard existing engine setup. This means the top-end GTI variant will be powered by the same 2.0L, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing around 200bhp. It might be paired with the options of both manual and DSG automatic units. However, the lower trims will be skipping the turbo engine and will be available with petrol, diesel and CNG options only.
We have just 1 more day to wait before the 2021 VW Polo makes its global debut in full glory. And as we informed you in our last VW article, the German automaker is also evaluating and considering bringing in a sub-4-meter new-gen Volkswagen Polo in the Indian market. So, it’s not all bad for the Indian market. It will be the seventh generation model of the hatchback in the country and will be based on the heavily localized MQB AO IN platform that underpins its siblings, Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq.
