New Celerio spy shots have emerged on the internet, and from the looks of it, Maruti Suzuki seems to be all set for its launch. The uncamouflaged car shown in the picture reveals a completely new design of one of the most anticipated hatchbacks of the Indian market. The second-generation Celerio now looks more aggressive and less boxy than the previous generation model.
The car got a more rounded profile, curves and bulges, all of them clearly inspired by its older sibling, Maruti Suzuki Swift. The headlights also look reminiscent of the larger hatch, and flanks a whole new grille that has a chrome strip running through its centre. The bumper section housing the fog lamp also gets a new design.
The side flaunts a tall boy profile with lift-and-pull style door handles. The A-pillar houses the body-coloured rearview mirrors which get integrated turn indicators. On the rear, Celerio matches a similar profile to the patent leaked earlier. The hatch now gets a dedicated handle for the boot and the taillamps are also all-new. The whole frame sits on sporty black alloy wheels that seem borrowed from Maruti’s smaller Nexa products.
The Maruti Celerio has been spotted a couple of times before, both on road and in filing papers. As per leaked data, the hatchback will be based on the automaker’s Heartect platform that already underpins the Maruti WagonR. Suzuki will offer Celerio with two engine options – its 1.2-litre unit and the 1.0-litre three-cylinder K1o engine. Transmission duties will be handled by either a five-speed manual or an AMT unit gearbox. Moreover, we also expect the Celerio to get a CNG option as well at the time of launch or in the future.
In its latest avatar, Celerio could also pack in a lot of modern features inside the cabin including the SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The top variants could also get automatic climate control and smart start-stop along with a reverse parking camera along.
Maruti Suzuki is yet to announce an official launch date for the new Celerio, but we expect a launch in the coming weeks. The hatchback will sit between the WagonR and Swift in the Maruti Arena line-up. As for the pricing, the hatchback could fit somewhere in a bracket of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 6.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
