Mercedes EQS will soon get the AMG makeover

The electric luxury limo will be packed with AMG's toys to deliver a high performance experience. Not jyst any high performance. AMG high performance.

Mercedes launched the world’s first electric luxury sedan, the EQS two weeks back. Now a new Mercedes-AMG EQS has been spotted doing laps at the Nurburgring courtesy of motor1. This variant of the EV will be boosted by all the bells and whistles of the German automakers AMG unit which is responsible for producing high-performance vehicles (A high-performance all-electric luxury limo? Yes, please!). The test car is reported to make its debut later this year as a fully production-ready unit.

The AMG EQS mule seen at the Nurburgring was partially camouflaged but it barely managed to hide the distinctively more aggressive front splitter, deeper side skirts and a reshaped rear bumper. We strongly believe under the front cladding there could be the AMG-specific Panamerica inspired radiator grille, with a dedicated nose cone as hinted by Gorden Wagner at the standard EQS reveal. “There will be similar differentiation as you know it from other AMG models, which of course have the Panamericana grille with the vertical bars, so it could be likely that we do something similar for an electric car,” said Mercedes’ chief designer a fortnight before.

Mercedes will also give the EQS’s chassis an upgrade to handle the extra power of the AMG-tuned EV powertrain. Sports adaptive air suspension could also make its way to the performance electric sedan. The spotted test mule was also flaunting some larger AMG-branded callipers and cross-drilled brake discs under the wheels.

On the inside, we believe the AMG variant will be sharing all the specs and features from its standard variant for an equally luxurious and comfortable drive. However, some elements could see the AMG upgrade like sports seats, a new sports steering wheel and some dedicated AMG displays for its enormous 55.5-inch Hyperscreen MBUX infotainment system.

Talking about the powertrain, we don’t have much details as of now apart from that it will be powered by a new twin-motor, four-wheel-drive powertrain. However, we can easily expect a marginal bump in all the figures of the standard EQS. In its most powerful 580 4MATIC guise, the standard EV produces 516 hp and 611 lb-ft, generated from two electric motors. So, in an AMG avatar, an engine output boost of around 200 or 250-bhp won’t be something outrageous to expect. With the extra power on offer, it should be able to do a 0-100kmph in under 4 seconds. The electronically limited top speed would be around 250kph (155mph). Cheap Rent a Car https://www.adcrent.com/en/

Mercedes is also planning to add an imitation of the exhaust sound with its “AMG Sound Experience.” The system sends a synthesized sound through the car’s loudspeakers and feeds signals to a shaker and a sound generator to mimic a combustion engine note.
