Lamborghini launches the Urus Performante – Almost reaching hyper-SUV!

While this one might not be able to launch upwards, it does launch like a rocket.

Lamborghini has taken the wraps off the Urus Performante and with it they’re almost touching hyper SUV status. Well, i might seem to be an exaggeration right now since the numbers won’t be as high as you’r eexpecting but, make no mistake this is a full blown Lamborghini Performante.

Performance and aero

Nerd alert! The Urus Performante scores 16 more HP at 657 HP and has the same amount of torque as before. Ugh! Dull, right? NO! The power figures on this car were already quite impressive for an SUV or even a super car. It was the design and a true Lambo feel that sold this one like hotcakes. Probably why Lambo was able to afford making this new Urus and spending on EVs for the future along with the upcoming Aventador replacement. The car now weighs 47 Kilos less thanks to a proper bath in carbon fiber. It is literally everywhere, including the interiors.

The special figure here is that the drag has increased by a whopping 38%. THAT is where the performante is supposed to shine. A performance vehicle doesn’t intend to only win drag races or have the straight line speed. It is supposed to be agile on track like no one else. That it should be. Talking of agility and top speed, the top speed stays at 191 MPH while the 0-100 KPH time has gone down by 3 tenths to 3.3 seconds. That’s even after an increased drag all thanks to weight reduction. It obviously comes with the usual Performante packaging like sharper suspension, brakes and a very accurate steering response. The rear wheel steering also intervenes quite quicker now says Lamborghini. Not bad for a £200,000 Super SUV!

Design

There isn’t much change noticeable at first expect for the abundance of carbon-fiber. Some might like the overdose while some may feel it is a bit too much. No matter what you think, it makes a boat load of difference in the driving dynamics. Once you get close on the details, you notice a lower bonnet lip for better aero, new air intakes and a carbon fiber bonnet with carbon intakes to cool the engine and help with the oil pressures. This adds up to a significant reduction in weight while adding more downforce. There is also an optional carbon roof on offer with wheel choices ranging up to 23 inch alloys. The wheel arches are also carbon fiber and 16mm wider along with a top-spoiler, a boot lid spoiler and a rear diffuser all in carbon fiber. As I said before, it is as if the Urus took a bath in a carbon-fiber tub! I almost forgot about the exhaust on a Lambo… apologies. This one comes with a larger and louder akrapovic exhaust as well.

Interior

Not a lot has changed in the interiors of the car expect for adding carbon-fiber and alcantara to it. There are newer graphics as well but the most important change is the modes. It has sport, strada, corsa and RALLY mode. This is Lambo testing the ground for their Huracan Sterrato maybe? The rally mode is for the dirt and it loosens up the ESC or traction control, send power to the hindlimbs of this monster and lets you blow off some dirt… quite literally!

Priced at around £200,000 to begin with without the options, this does not seem to be as offensive as we thought. Especially since the ‘regular’ Urus starts at almost £190,000. That does not mean it is cheap by any which way but, this isn’t as out of reach for many since the used car market for Lambos has been huge thanks to Lambo selling 20k units of the Urus till June 2022.
