The new Ferrari 296 GTB, which was launched last year globally, has finally touched the Indian soil. It has a plug-in hybrid powertrain and has been priced at ₹5.40 crores.
Specifications
The powertrain is a mid-engine, RWD hybrid V6 layout, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. So its definitely fun to drive. The engine is a 3L twin-turbo 120 degree V6 which alone can produce around 645 hp. In fact, according to Ferrari it is the brand’s first V6 powered road car. It is linked to a PHEV electric motor which can produce another 166 hp. The combined power output is a mighty 830 hp and 740 Nm of torque. The car is capable of doing a 0-100 kmph in just under 3 seconds and reach a top speed of 330 kmph.
The car gets multiple drive modes, like Hybrid, Performance, Qualify and eDrive which provide a range of varying electric power and regenerative braking. The eDrive mode allows the car to be able to drive solely on electrical power. A 7.42 kWh battery pack carries enough power to drive around 25 km with a max speed of 135 kmph. In terms of aerodynamics, the sports car also gets an active spoiler for varying drag and downforce.

Design
The exterior design of the car has been inspired out of the 1963 250 LM, but it also gets cues from the P80/C and the J50. The front and the rear diffusers are made of carbon-fibre. On the inside, the driver assistance technology and instrument cluster seems to have been borrowed from the flagship SF90 Stradale. However, the gear lever has a retro outlook with its gated design from the 60s. The Alcantara-wrapped seats get contrast stitching and the steering is also made from carbon-fibre. Along with the standard variant, the track-based Assetto Fiorano trim will also be made available, with a more lightweight, performance based package, capable of producing a 100kg more of downforce.

The 296 GTB will be sold along the other models in the country which include the Roma and will directly compete against the Lamborghini Huracan and the McLaren 720s.
