Ferrari has launched the Roma in India at Rs 3.76 crore (ex-showroom, India). The Italian supercar is offered in a single variant and can be personalised as per the customer’s taste. It sits between Portofino M and the new 296 GTB in the Ferrari’s international exotic line-up. Roma pays tribute to the city of Rome from the 1950-60s.
The Ferrari Roma is powered by a twin-turbo V8 engine that churns out 602bhp at 7500rpm and its peak torque stands at 760Nm at 5,750rpm. The power unit is paired with an 8-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT) gearbox which sends the power to the rear wheels. This Italian beauty is capable of a 0 to 100kmph sprint in just 3.4 seconds, while it takes 9.3 seconds to hit the 200kmph mark.
The Roma weighs 1,472kg (dry) and the top speed is electronically restricted to 320kmph. Ferrari has also given this supercar a 50-50 weight distribution which aids in agile handling and quick steering. There are also Side Slip Control 6.0 and Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer electronic torque vectoring systems for better handling.
The performance of the Roma is matched with the beautiful head-turning Italian design. The front flaunts a muscular hood, a wide air vent, a prominent front splitter, and two linear distinctive sleek full LED headlights, traversed by horizontal light strips. Ferrari says the fascia has a shark nose effect and helps in reducing the air drag.
On the sides, the sloping roofline flanked by frameless doors are seamless and gives it a distinctive look. The sharp ORVMs and flared wheel arches encasing the 20-inch star-spoked wheels only add to Roma’s sporty character.
Coming to the rear, the quad-LED taillights and the four exhaust tips are anything but unnoticeable. Another notable highlight includes a rear spoiler that can be deployed in three different positions – Low Drag, Medium Downforce, and High Downforce.
The Roma gets a new lightweight chassis which has been developed by Ferrari for its new generation models. The Italian automaker claims that 70 per cent of the components in the Ferrari Roma are entirely new.
Steeping inside the two-seater cabin, the Roma features a familiar Ferrari design with a button-loaded multifunctional steering wheel. Most controls are on the steering wheel, including a dial to choose from various drive modes: Comfort, Sport, Race and ESC-Off.
The dash area includes a 16-inch instrument cluster, a 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a separate 8.8-inch passenger screen. It comes with standard features like climate control, smartphone connectivity, navigation and more. The racing seats are also electronically adjustable.
The Ferrari Roma rivals the likes of Aston Martin Vantage, Mercedes-AMG GT-R and the Porsche 911.
