Kia Motors is increasing their SUV portfolio with another compact-SUV!
Kia Motors India plans to introduce their new sub-compact SUV at the Auto Expo 2020. However, Kia Motors India has revealed the official concept sketch for the upcoming compact-SUV. It is rumoured that the model will be launched under the name Kia Sonet, even though the company is yet to confirm the same.
The codename for the rumoured Kia Sonet has been given Kia QYi by the company. The company has already applied for the ‘Kia Sonet’ trademark in most countries. Even though the name isn’t confirmed yet, this compact-SUV has been seen numerous times during the testing period.
The engine of this model will be based upon the same one which exists in the Hyundai Venue. Many components and the engine itself will be sourced from the Venue. The Hyundai model has 1.2liter Kappa petrol engine and 1.0liter turbocharged petrol engine, both in compliance with the BS4 standards. However, the Kia QYi will be getting the engine which will be updated according to the BS6 standards. The 1.0litrr turbocharged petrol engine provides a power of 125 PS along with a torque of 172 Nm. On the other hand, the 1.2liter Kappa petrol engine provides a power of 83 PS along with a torque of 114 Nm. The Kia QYi comes with two types of gearboxes:
-
7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
-
6-speed manual transmission.
The Kia QYi will get a diesel engine of 1.5liter, the same one that is there in the Kia Seltos.
The styling of the Kia QYi will be inspired both by the Hyundai Venue and Kia Seltos. The design will have shiny wheel arches, LED DRLs, and projector headlamps like the Seltos. Coming to the interiors of the model, there are assumptions that a number of connected and comfort features will be available, similar to the Seltos and its sister car, Hyundai Venue.
Additionally, it will get a 360 degree camera as well, which will be a segment first within the compact-SUV segment. Furthermore, features such as Apple CarPlay, an 8-inch touch screen infotainment system with the UVO connectivity technology, Climate Control, Android Auto, Cruise Control, Remote Operation, and Wireless Charging with Sunroof Will also be available.
The pricing of this model will be taken from that of Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Ford Ecosport, and Hyundai Venue. Even though it hasn’t been revealed yet, we assume it to be in the range of 6.5 lakhs to 11.8 lakhs ex-showroom.
