About 2 months ago, we saw Maruti teasing a Jimny launch via their social media. Today, we have confirmation that the car will be making it’s India debut sometime next year. The version launching will be the 5-door as opposed to the 3-door, which was also spotted testing a few months back.
The car will be 3850mm long, which is a 300mm increase over the 3-door, 1645mm wide and 1730mm tall all on a 2550mm wheelbase. Despite being under 4m in length, the car will be exempt from the excise category offered by the govt’ thanks to it’s 1.5L engine.
The 1.5L power unit has a power output of 100HP/130NM, and has a 12V SHVS mild-hybrid system available on offer as well. As for transmission, there will be an option between a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque converter on offer. The Jimny will also become the only car in this price range with a proper 4X4 system in place. On the inside, we can expect the usual touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple Carplay capabilities, along with a few more touch-ups.
Competition for the Jimny will come in the form of the Thar and Gurkha, and considering the specs of the car, it will likely be aimed at a very specific audience instead of the wider public. No details on pricing and such have been revealed, so let’s wait for more details by Maruti about the same!
