Electric is the future, and automakers are just confirming it at the Shanghai Auto Expo with back to back EV launches. Being part of this e-volution, Audi launched its electric sedan concept, the A6 e-tron at the 2021 edition of the auto show on Monday. This new horse from the German car manufacturers will join forces with its other electric siblings – the e-tron, the e-tron GT, the newly released Q4 e-tron, and Sportback versions of the e-tron & Q4.
The A6 e-tron is expected to hit the roads in late 2022 and here are 10 things that Audi has planned for the electric avatar of its hugely popular luxury sedan –
- The sedan is based on a new platform that Audi is calling “Premium Platform Electric” or “PPE” for short, developed in collaboration with Porsche. It will be the first car based on this platform.
- Audi claims its two electric motors are capable of delivering a total output of 350 kW (469hp) and a torque of 800 Nm. The A6 e-tron will be able to do a 0-100 km/h (0-62mph) in less than 4 seconds.
- It will have a 100kWh battery, and be able to charge at up to 270kW on an 800-volt charger. The battery has a driving range of 700 km (435 miles) on the WLTP cycle (390-400 miles on the EPA cycle).
- Audi says that the 270kW charger will be able to charge the battery from 5-80% in about 25 minutes giving it about 480 km/300 mi of range. Or in an optimal situation, a 10-minute charge can add up to 300 km (186 mi) of range.
- Overall, in terms of exterior size, the A6 e-tron is about the same as the rest of the A6/A7 series. The Sportback design is 4.96m long, 1.96m wide, and 1.44m high. It will come with big 22-inch wheels.
- Audi claims the A6 e-tron has an aerodynamic drag coefficient of just .22, which would also make it one of the least-draggy cars available.
- The German automaker will incorporate several high-tech features in it, including Audi’s Digital Matrix LED headlights. These allow the headlights to project images on the road ahead, giving more control over the light coming out of the headlights. Audi engineers even programmed a game for the A6 e-tron concept, which can be played by projecting the game onto a wall and controlled with a smartphone (KEWL).
- The EV will also come with 4 side projectors that can illuminate the ground with various symbols. Audi suggested one possible use for these is to warn cyclists when a driver is about to open the door.
- Audi says the final production model will be “95%” of what we are offering in this concept.
- The German brand also cleared the electric vehicle is not a replacement for the gas-engine A6 but will sell alongside it.
