Renault Electric Kwid makes its India debut at Auto Expo 2020
Renault is not going to stay behind within the electric vehicles segment and they made it clear at the Auto Expo 2020. The electric Kwid which was launched in China is expected to be seen on Indian roads towards the end of 2020. This electric hatchback is the perfect rival for the upcoming model Maruti WagonR electric.
The electric motor with which the model runs is developed in association with DongFeng in China and it provides a driving range of 250kms in the NEDC Cycle. In terms of safety, the Electric Kwid comes equipped with airbags, sunroof, 4 disc brakes, and rear parking sensors. Furthermore, it is expected that Renault will provide multiple charging options for the model. This way, it will be possible to charge the battery-pack at both domestic and public chargers. The charging updates can be seen on the instrument clustering that will indicate distance before the battery runs out of charge, the remaining battery charge, and the nearest charging station.
The exterior of the Electric Kwid gets a brand new bumper and full LED headlamps. Not only that, but it also comes with new LED tail lamps, new grille, and the rear bumper which has been redesigned. The rear air outlets and the front air intake are just there for decoration purposes. These outlets do not have any real function because the model comes with an EV Powertrain.
The Electric Kwid will be launched by Renault soon. However, the brand is still awaiting the Government Policies in regards to electric vehicle charging in India. This launch will be followed by other automakers testing their own electric vehicles. For example, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR electric is currently being tested along with the KUV100 of Mahindra. Additionally, Tata Tiago electric is also expected to be launched as a potential competitor of the Electric Kwid. With all honesty, once the Government Policies are declared, the entire country can expect emissions to go down considering almost all automakers are launching electric counterparts.
Even though the Electric Kwid was showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 to hike customer interest, there still is no confirmation from the company about a possible launch date in India. But, keeping in mind that the Government is pushing toward Electric Vehicles, we can assume the model will be launched much sooner than we expected.
