Jaguar Land Rover takes over 3rd position
The units sold figures are out and it looks like Jaguar Land Rover has sold around 5000 units in India. If this is true then, the company has managed to sell more units than what Volkswagen and Audi has managed in 2019. The British brand is now the first non-German company to crack the top three list in luxury car segment. The first and second positions are held by Mercedes-Benz and BMW respectively.
Mercedes-Benz retained its 1st position for the 3rd time consecutively. On top of that, Jaguar Land Rover is the only brand that has recorded a 9% growth in their sales from last year. The units sold by JLR in 2018 was 4596 units. The other brands who are in direct competition with Jaguar Land Rover have all logged a significant fall in their sales. The brand additionally plans to introduce the new Evoque, I-Pace, and Discovery Sport Facelift in India in the near future.
If we took into account the entire industry’s records, then there has been a fall of 13% sales from 2018 to 2019. The total number of sales in 2018 was 40,340 units (Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar Land Rover, BMW, Volvo, and Audi). Compared to that, the sales in 2019 was recorded to be 35,274 units.
If we break down the sales of each brand (approximately):
Mercedes-Benz – 13,786 units.
BMW – 9641 units.
JLR – 5000 units.
Audi – 4594 units.
Volvo – 2253 units.
Amongst all the brands, it was Audi who witnessed the worst decline in sales of 29% with only 4594 units.
Let’s not forget that JLR is owned and controlled by Tata Motors. So, it’d be good news for the Indian automaker. Moreover, Tata is charging with all guns blazing with their impressive new lineup of cars.
