Polestar reveals their performance EV – The O2 Concept

Set to rival the upcoming but perennially delayed Tesla Roadster, the O2 is turning heads even in its concept stage!

Swedish company Polestar, which is a subsidiary of Geely-owned Volvo Cars has just revealed their vision for the future of roadsters, and they have named the concept “O2”. Based on their 2020 “Precept” concept, the O2 is a two-door performance roadster with a drop-top and will use the same powertrain showcased in the Precept.

The car is built on a high-quality bonded aluminium platform which is built for emphasised dynamic response. Design-wise, Polestar has decided to shorten the wheelbase as compared to the Precept concept by about 400mm, though has still managed to fit in a 2+2 seating style into the cabin. The rest of the cabin is also looks incredibly modern, and uses sustainable fabric and other materials for the upholstery of the car.

The most unique feature of this car though? A drone which follows the car autonomously and records the driving style to chart out the most ideal and appropriate driving path and patterns. The drone can follow the car at up to speeds of 90kph, and the footage captured by it can be edited and shared while sitting inside the car thanks to the large infotainment system’s display! Do check out this video on Polestar’s official YouTube channel to gain more of an insight on the car.

Riding on 22″ wheels, the O2 is also aerodynamically sculpted in the perfect manner to be as aerodynamic as possible so as to further increase efficiency as well. The only sad part about all this is that the O2 as of right now is just a concept, and we will unfortunately have to wait a few more years at least to see a production-ready version of the car. The O2 must certainly not remain restricted to the drawing board, and should see a production variant soon enough, for who would like to see such a futuristic and unique car remain a concept?
