The 2023 Mercedes A-Class hatch and saloon are a lot more electrified! New A35 AMG also unveiled

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the new and better version of its entry-level A-Class line-up with some tweaks. The major updates that you can find in this edition are design changes, the latest MBUX system, mild-hybrid powertrains, and an introduction to an AMG Street Style Edition.

Fresh looks from the Outside

When it comes to the external looks of the car, the new A-Class is provided with a redesigned lighting signature for headlamps but the final shape remains the same. There are some changes in the  shark-nose grille which are paired with new designs for the alloy of its wheels. When it comes to the back, the new A class has restyled diffusers and LED design for tail lamps. Mercedes has also introduced a number of non-metallic/metallic and ‘Manufaktur’ paint finishes to the new A-class.

Changes on the Inside

When you enter the cabin, you will find the free-standing dual-screen display of seven inches and a 10.25‑inch display as well which is placed on the center of the dashboard. You can also opt for two 10.25 inch displays as an option by paying a little extra. These screens run on the latest MBOX interface from Mercedes. Like its sibling, the B-Class, the updated A class also gets the interior seat and other materials that are made from completely recycled materials.

The Electrified Engine Options

The real changes in the new A class can be found under the hood in the models that will be sold overseas. The major overhaul here is the addition of new plug-in hybrid powertrains.

The hybrid options available in the petrol variants consist of a 48Volt mild hybrid system that increases the total output by 13bhp. The PHEVs have an all-electric range of 70-80km from their 15.6kWh battery.

The Special AMG Touch

The AMG line-up is the interesting addition to the A class. It uses the same A35 and A45 S where the former gets a mild-hybrid system and instead of the seven-speed transmission, it gets a newer eight-speed DCT. The power output is at 300bhp/400 Nm. The A45 S has no change in its power delivery of 415 bhp and 500 Nm of torque from its four-cylinder. The other changes found in the A45 S are present in the ‘Street Style Edition’ in the form of limited-run paint, aero-kit, 19-inch matte-black wheels, and red brake calipers along with retro decals.
