Hyundai teases the 2022 Elantra N; to rival the Skoda Octavia RS & Honda Civic Type R

Sometimes, two images are enough to warn your rivals.

Ahead of its global premiere sometime in July this year, Hyundai has shared a couple of images showcasing the now-official Elantra N (different from N Line), which is the flagship model of the Elantra range. The car is finished in the signature Hyundai N Performance blue shade, big side sills, or skirts if you may, large multi-spoke alloys, an all-black rear spoiler, and a new rear bumper with a couple of circular exhaust tips.

The sixth member of Hyundai’s N family could have a 2.0L, turbo-Petrol motor churning out 275hp mated to either a 6-speed MT or an 8-speed DCT unit. It is also said that it will remain an FWD but will come with chassis tweaks and upgraded brakes, as you can see in the image here. The alloys are wrapped in Michelin’s Pilot Sport 4S and are helped by a performance brake system with red Hyundai N-branded calipers.

“We designed it to be a race-proven sportscar with dynamic driving capabilities and style that performance enthusiasts love,” Till Wartenberg, VP, Hyundai N, comments. “I can’t wait to unveil Elantra N, an outstanding addition to the N brand lineup that offers pulse-pounding performance. Stay tuned for the digital world premiere.”

It is also likely to get other N-exclusive features like launch control, switchable traction control, and the N drive modes. On the inside, you should have sport seats, suede upholstery, aluminum pedals, and an N-themed instrument cluster to name a few.

As far as the Indian market is concerned, as of now, the South Korean giant has no plans of bringing the Elantra N here, but with the arrival of the i20 N Line, it could also be looking at supplying the Elantra N to the Indians. This step might make even more sense considering Skoda is already looking at introducing the new Octavia RS sometime next year.
