The 2 Series Gran Coupé sports the typical BMW look, with the relatively smaller kidney grilles, an aggressive nose and raked headlights.
The car features a sloping roofline that ends in a fastback-like rear section, hence the name “gran coupe” and the frameless doors add a touch of poshness. meanwhile, the rear end design features a sculpted boot lid and slim LED taillights in typical BMW fashion.
In international markets, the 2 Series is available in Coupé, Convertible and Active Tourer body styles. However, in India, you can only get the 4-door Gran Coupe version of the 2 series, apart from the previously launched performance Coupe version. The four-door model is based on BMW’s Front Architecture (FAAR) platform, which is also shared with the 1 Series, globally.
The 2 Series gets up to date tech and features including a digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch iDrive touchscreen. Despite it being an entry-level model, being a BMW you can expect properly screwed together bits and great quality throughout the cabin.
The 2 Series Gran Coupé is available in two trim levels; the Sport Line and M Sport. The M sport gets a chrome-heavy front grille, more aggressive front and rear bumpers, side skirts, ‘M’ badges on the front fenders and a blacked-out window surrounds. The sportier variant also gets upgraded 18-inch rims as compared to the Sport Line’s 17-inchers.
The cabin also gets upgrades including an M Sport steering wheel and aluminium pedals. Meanwhile, both variants get leatherette upholstery, digital screens for the instruments and infotainment, and ambient lighting.
The 2 Series is powered by a 190hp, 400Nm, 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-diesel engine mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox in the 220d version, which is the sole engine option available in India for now. 0-100kph takes 7.5 seconds.
BMW plans to offer a petrol-powered 220i option soon, which will be powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine churning out 192hp and 280Nm of torque.
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe’s introductory prices start at ₹39.30 lakh for the entry-level Sport Line trim, while the M Sport variant will set you back by ₹41.40 lakh.
