Ferrari to recall more than a thousand 812 Superfasts because the rear window might fly off

Owners and dealers will receive a notification about the repair campaign on December 6, 2020.

Ferrari is going to recall 1,063 units of the 812 Superfast produced between 2018-2020 because of a rather peculiar issue- there’s a possibility for the rear window glass to fly off as you’re driving.

The first instance of this issue — that Ferrari knows about — comes from Germany, May 11, 2020. The Italian performance car manufacturer then received two more reports from Germany that occurred on May 21. As the company began investigating the cause for such an issue, the analysis showed that an error in the supplier’s production process concerning the non-cleaned glass bonding area on the bodywork could be the root of the problem, which could decrease the long-term adhesion for the window panel. The Ferrari Product Committee met on September 30, 2020, and decided that a recall had to be made.

Ferrari will replace the rear window on the affected vehicles. Owners and dealers will receive a notification about the repair campaign on December 6, 2020.

Ferrari first revealed the 812 Superfast at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show as a replacement for the F12tdf, turning many heads with its jaw-dropping looks and outrageous performance figures. Powered by a 6.5-litre V12, the 812 utilises 789 horsepower at 8,500 screaming revs and 530 pound-feet at 7,000 rpm, to do a 0-62mph sprint in just 2.9 seconds and a claimed top speed over 211mph.

The 812 Superfast uses Ferrari’s Virtual Short Wheelbase 2.0 system with rear-wheel steering for handling.

In 2019, Ferrari revealed the 812 GTS which basically was a Superfast but with a folding hardtop for when you’re out cruising around sunny California.
