In the flesh! – 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV and Pickup

Unmistakably a Hummer.

To all the fanatics of the horrendously massive engines, look away for GMC has officially revealed the all-electric Hummer SUV and pickup. And judging by how it looks, change is not only necessary but better too!

Highlights of the Hummer EV –

  • Crabwalk feature
  • Extract Mode
  • Ultravision with underbody cameras
  • Up to 830hp and 11,500 lb-ft of torque in the SUV
  • Super Cruise – driver-assistance tech for hands-free driving and automatic lane changing

The Hummer EV Pickup is the world’s first zero emissions and zero limits all-electric supertruck, as per GMC’s dictionary. To take it even further, the Hummer EV SUV combines the features of the pickup with the added benefits of an SUV to ensure that it does the off-roading bits, better.

Interior

Switch to the inside, and you’ll be welcomed with a massive and spacious feel, dominated by a 12.3-inch diagonal color Driver Information Center display and an even massive 13.4-inch infotainment system that not only will play your songs but will also customize data, settings, and control.

GMC also offers two ‘shades’ of interior – the Lunar Shadow and Lunar Horizon. The former has Jet Black and Taupe with Tech Bronze accents whereas the latter has Jet Black and Light Gray with Tech Bronze accents. Both types can be had with durable all-weather flooring.

Off-roading potential & tech

Put simply, both, the Hummer EV Pickup and the Hummer EV SUV are designed in such a manner that they overcome the toughest of the terrain with ease.

Additionally, you can access the Crabwalk Mode in either of the two body styles which is nothing but a Hummer EV-exclusive 4-wheel steer that can turn the rear wheels up to 10 degrees in either direction to drive diagonally (not Diagon Alley) at low speeds.

The Extract Mode allows the Hummer EV to raise itself with help from its Adaptive Air Ride Suspension and lift approximately 6-inches to drive over tough obstacles.

Ultravision is GMC’s way of ensuring that your Hummer EV remains intact in every situation possible and so, has installed up to 18 camera views on the SUV, and up to 17 camera views on the Pickup, including a standard HD Surround Vision for real-time ‘footage’ of the terrain. You even get specially-engineered 35-inch tyres.

Remember how the ‘regular’ Hummer was able to drive over almost anything? Well, it certainly feels like GMC hasn’t forgotten about that and as such, has given the Hummer EV something it rightfully deserves – off-road dominance!

The standard independent front and rear suspension will work in such a manner that they promise remarkable highway comfort, while the available front e-lockers and virtual rear lockers optimize traction. For those who don’t have a clue as to what they are, the e-lockers are units designed to switch to an open diff or a closed diff with the help of a switch, as and when required.

Important to mention, should you feel bored with the inside view, with help from the industry-leading Infinity Roof and Transparent Sky Panels, you can now live the open-air experience.

Let’s talk power & range

As per the estimates of GM, the Pickup should have a 0-60 time of 3 seconds, the SUV, 3.5 seconds. Similarly, the Pickup will boast up to 1,000hp whereas the SUV sports 830hp.

Hummer EV Pickup: up to 350KW, 800V DC fast charging which roughly means 100 miles within 10 minutes of charging. The estimated range hovers around the 350+ mile mark.

Hummer EV SUV: up to 300KW fast charging, estimated 300+ mile range.

Which one would you pick?

One can dominate virtually any terrain, whereas one takes that said capability and combines it with the long-standing proficiency of an SUV. I think, you already know the answer to this, don’t you?

P. S. – A true American answer would actually be the pick-up.
