The Land Rover Defender 90 is now in India!

The new three-door range is available in three powertrain options - 2.0 I petrol, 3.0 l petrol and 3.0 I diesel. JLR has also silently launched a higher-spec petrol variant of the longer Defender 110.

Jaguar Land Rover India introduced the Defender 90 SUV at a starting ₹76.57 (ex-showroom) in the process of its latest launch spree. Defender 90 is a three-door version of the five-door Defender 110 which was unveiled in October of 2020. The TATA owned British automaker is offering the new SUV in several models such as Defender, X-Dynamic and Defender X, with the Defender and X-Dynamic getting S, SE and HSE specification packs. The new range is available in three powertrain options – 2.0 I petrol, 3.0 l petrol and 3.0 I diesel.

While the smaller 2.0 l petrol unit delivers a power of 221 kW and torque of 400 Nm, the 3.0 l petrol churns out 294 kW and 550 Nm of torque with the assistance of a mild-hybrid system. The only diesel offering on the lineup generates the maximum torque of the three, at 650 Nm, and its power delivery stands 221 kW.

The Defender 90 looks visually identical to the Defender 110 but gets a shorter wheelbase, while missing out on the second row. However, despite the smaller form factor than its elder sibling, the 90 still manages to have a six-seat setup courtesy of an innovative front central jump seat. The dash layout is identical to Defender 110, and packs in all the technology of its elder sibling including the Pivi Pro infotainment system.

JLR claims the 90 to be the toughest and most capable Land Rover ever made and packs in new-age connectivity features. Additionally, it also gets enhanced drive, safety and convenience with a configurable Terrain Response 2 system that allows to customise the SUV’s set up as per the terrain ahead.

The British automaker is also offering more personalisation on the Defender 90 than any previous Land Rover with four Accessory Packs, the Explorer, Adventure, Country and Urban Packs, giving each Defender a distinct character with a specially selected range of enhancements.

Meanwhile, with its new entrant, JLR has also silently launched a higher-spec petrol variant of the longer Defender 110.

Land Rover India’s product portfolio now includes the Range Rover Evoque (starting at Rs 64.12 Lakh), Discovery Sport (starting at Rs 65.30 Lakh), 2021 Range Rover Velar (starting at Rs 79.87 Lakh), Defender 90 (starting at Rs 76.57), Defender 110 (starting at Rs 83.38 Lakh), Range Rover Sport (starting at Rs 91.27 Lakh), Range Rover (starting at Rs 2.11 Crore) and Range Rover Sport SVR (starting at Rs 2.19 Crore).
