Honda City eHEV launched in India for Rs. 19.5 lakhs

Available only in the top tier ZX trim, the City eHEV claims to offer 26.5kmpl mileage being the first-in-segment hybrid in India

Honda Cars India have finally launched the brand new Honda City eHEV in India at a price of Rs. 19,49,900 ex-showroom. Bookings for the hybrid have been open and deliveries will start very soon. The price makes it the most expensive saloon in the segment but, there’s much more to it than just a feature set. This is a hybrid. Let’s jump into it.

Starting off with the hybrid powertrain, the City e:HEV hybrid gets a unique Atkinson Cycle four-cylinder 1.5L engine aided by dual electric motors. The first motor basically acts as an electric generator as the other uses electric power for propulsion. With a claimed mileage figure of 26.5Kmpl as against the 18.4Kmpl of the standard City, this setup is strictly not on Tesla levels of performance or even as good as an EV like the Nexon EV.

It produces 126hp of power and 253Nm of torque which is no slouch and more than enough for both your road trips and “city” outings. Get the pun? Yeah. The setup comes mated to an eCVT transmission and a battery pack in the boot. This car will prioritise the electric-only mode in start/stop conditions.

Coming over to the safety kit, this one comes with segment-leading active safety tech. These include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and autonomous emergency braking which have all been bundled in the Honda Sensing Suite. Moreover, the City e:HEV hybrid gets six airbags, ORVM-mounted lane-watch cameras, multi-angle rear-view camera, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TMPS), vehicle stability assist, hill-start assist and ISOFIX-compatible rear seats.

The only visible differences on the outside include blue outline Honda logos for the hybrid, e:HEV badge at the tailgate, sort of new fog light garnishes and an updated diffuser with carbon finish. Faux carbon I must add. On the inside, the changes are with the updated 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring Android Auto and Apple CarPlay along with ambient lighting, electric sunroof and an updated version of Honda Connect. It is now compatible with Amazon Echo, Google assistant and smartwatch integration for both Apple Watch and Android watches.
