This is the ‘new’ Land Rover Discovery

The 7-seater SUV gets new design elements on the outside, an improved cabin and the new straight-six Ingenium petrol and diesel engines.

Another week another new Land Rover! And we’re more than happy to tell you what’s new. JLR on Wednesday launched the latest Land Rover Discovery in the Indian market at a starting price of ₹88.06 lakh (ex showroom). The new Land Rover Discovery gets a ‘slew of updates’ inside out, which span from the changed exterior design elements to an improved cabin with re-designed second-row and an updated infotainment system. The fully grown SUV now also gets a new straight-six ingenium engine in both petrol as well as diesel avatars.

The new Discovery has got new design elements on the outside. The most noticeable update of them being the new signature LED headlights with DRLs. The front facia now also has a re-designed front bumper which gets a wider body-colored graphic and new side vents. Coming to the rear, the LED lights on the back are also new and are joined across the back by a gloss black panel. And before you ask, the registration plates will still not be centered.

The updated 7-seater cabin now has the Intelligent Seat Fold technology that allows customers to choose the layout inside the new Discovery by making use of the functionality on the main 11.4-inch infotainment unit. The dash area now flaunts the JLR’s Pivi Pro infotainment system.

The new 11.4-inch full HD touchscreen on the center console is now 48% larger than before. Moreover, Land Rover’s SOTA technology allows owners to update as many as 44 individual electronic modules. There is also a 12.3-inch Driver Display which boasts of high-definition 3D mapping within the instrumentation.

Other features on the inside include a Cabin Air Ionisation with PM2.5 air filtration technology, Click and Go tablet holders incorporated into the front seatbacks and USB-A charging sockets.

The 2021 Land Rover Discovery is powered by straight-six Ingenium engines in both petrol and diesel. The 3.0 I six-cylinder diesel powertrain generates a total of 296 hp (221 kW) with 650 Nm of torque at 1,500- 2,500 rpm. While the six-cylinder petrol is capable of churning out 355hp (265 kW) with 500 Nm of torque at 1,750- 5,000 rpm.

The TATA owned British automaker is also offering a four-cylinder P300 Ingenium petrol powertrain. This unit delivers the same power output as the six-cylinder diesel at 296 HP (221 kW), but with a 400 Nm of torque at 1,500- 4,500 rpm.

JLR has also packed in the new Discovery with an advanced driveline that optimizes the torque split between front and rear axles, using a range of sensors to distribute torque to suit the conditions. The automaker claims that the new Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system maximizes traction, on-road dynamics and driveline efficiency, resulting in improved fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions in normal driving, without an adverse impact on Discovery’s all-terrain capability.

“The new Discovery, while retaining Land Rover’s legendary breadth of capability, offers renewed levels of refinement, luxury and efficiency which make it the best full-size SUV for the outdoors and adventure-filled journeys with the family,” said Rohit Suri, President and Managing Director, Jaguar Land Rover India.

Land Rover India’s product portfolio now includes the Range Rover Evoque (starting at Rs 64.12 Lakh), Discovery Sport (starting at Rs 65.30 Lakh), 2021 Range Rover Velar (starting at Rs 79.87 Lakh), Defender 90 (starting at Rs 76.57), Defender 110 (starting at Rs 83.38 Lakh), New Discovery (starting at ₹88.06 Lakh), Range Rover Sport (starting at Rs 91.27 Lakh), Range Rover (starting at Rs 2.11 Crore) and Range Rover Sport SVR (starting at Rs 2.19 Crore).
