2022 Genesis GV70 makes a surprise debut as the brand’s baby SUV

The GV70's design seems to bear a heavy resemblance to the G70 sedan, with split headlight and taillight layouts and a large shield-grille which helps the SUV stand out as a Genesis.

The Genesis lineup has been growing, and today the Korean brand’s latest car in the form of the GV70 SUV has just made its unofficial debut in a rather sneaky, but typically Genesis fashion.

The GV70’s design seems to bear a heavy resemblance to the G70 sedan, with split headlight and taillight layouts and a large shield-grille which helps the SUV stand out as a Genesis. The GV80’s younger brother does seem to look more youthful as well with a dramatic C-pillar shape and uptight exhausts. Genesis has also previewed the GV70 Sport, which features blacked-out details and oval exhausts exclusive to the model, along with a more aggressive wheel design.

The interior seems more familiar. however, with a 14.5-inch touchscreen plopped on the dash, and the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster heavily reminiscent of the GV80, there are differences worth noting. Having said that, the ambient lighting surrounding the climate controls, and oval shapes dotted throughout the interior do bring a sense of distinction from the other Genesis models. More pictures of the GV70 are soon to follow, but it does look like Genesis has excelled in making this SUV quite unique while still making it bow it’s head to the previous Genesis models.

Since this is only a preview, Genesis haven’t spoken much about the powertrain, but it is very probable that the GV70 will receive the GV80’s 2.5-litre four-cylinder as standard and an optional 3.5-litre six-cylinder, with potentially up to 375 horsepower.
