One of the oldest and renowned carmakers, Bentley set its notch up by another level by unveiling a brand new incarnation- the Mulliner Batur, a two-door GT coupe, named after the serene Lake Batur in Bali, Indonesia.
Along with a fresh new design language, Bentley has also built their most powerful car in their history. The car gets the iconic 6L W12 engine generating upwards of 730 hp and a staggering 1000 Nm of torque. Along with it comes the modern bells and whistles like eLSD based chassis, 4-wheel steering, torque vectoring and electronically active anti-roll bars. The redefined design of the Batur will also make way for the look of the upcoming Hybrids and BEVs. The W12 which has claimed a sweet spot in every car enthusiast’s heart is looking at it’s final run soon. The engine which has propelled the brand literally as well as figuratively will be given its farewell in the grandest manner, in the Bentley way.

The Bentley brand being colloquial with aristocracy also ensures exclusivity to its buyers. Mulliner, the bespoke and coacbuilding division, successor to the Bacalar, will produce only 18 units of the Batur. All of them have already been reserved by clients and will be built in collaboration and in accordance to their requirements. Every model will be designed uniquely by the in-house team, which offers a wide array of options of materials for parts like titanium, environment-friendly natural fibre composites and even 3D printed 18K gold!

Discussing about the new design language, Andreas Mindt, the company’s director of design said, “For any design team, the chance to redefine our own rules is the most exciting challenge. We have reimagined the Bentley design language, keeping some continuity to the past and present while also drastically changing key elements. The design of a modern Bentley should always be potent, inspirational and harmonious. The form has to be strong and muscular whilst remaining graceful – there must be both elegant flow and muscularity. The term we use is the “resting beast stance” – picture a lion or tiger, laying low in attack position in long grass. That powerful shape – of ultimate power at rest, that looks fast even when stationary – is one that drives our new interpretation of the classic Bentley power line and haunch.”
The iconic Bentley grille is also more sleek and modernised, which compliments the new designs of the headlights. The rear gets an active spoiler and a matching set of taillights. On the inside as well, buyers get the choice of material and texture for literally every surface. Seat options include low-carbon leather from Scotland, tannage leather from Italy or Dinamica, a sustainable alternative to leather.
The car, hand built from scratch, definitely does not come for cheap, as you can expect. Every unit of the Mulliner Batur has been priced at an eye-watering ₤1.65m, excluding taxes and additional option costs.
