Rimac Nevera is officially the fastest EV in the world! World top speed record at 412 KPH

It seems that Rimac and Bugatti's partnership has led to the top seed record bug within Rimac as well.

The Rimac Nevera has set an EV top speed world record by going 412KPH (258MPH) making it the fastest electric production car in the world. The Rimac team looked specifically for an oval with straights long enough to achieve the Nevera’s top speed, eventually settling on the Automotive Testing Papenburg track in North Germany which has two 4 Km long straights. Interestingly, the test was not conducted at the VW owned Ehra Lessien test track which was used by Bugatti to prove its top speeds. Check out the video below:

The Nevera was set on its top speed mode and was able to achieve these speeds thanks to Michelin’s Cup 2R tires being monitored by a Michelin technician before the go-ahead was given. race logic set up their V-box systems inside the car to avoid any controversy that surrounded the SSC Tuatara. Behind the wheel was Rimac’s test driver Miro Zrnčević. The challenge he had was to get the perfect entry from the curved section of the track to the straight to achieve the V-Max speed and he did the job. As the car started to level at the banking travelling at around the 250KPH mark, Miro unraveled the beastly electric power reaching a top speed of 258 MPH or 412 KPH. This is what Miro had to say:

“To travel at 412kph, or 258mph, means travelling at a third of the speed of sound. Simply achieving that alone in a road car is incredibly complex, but in Nevera we have created a car that can travel long distances on a single charge, can tackle tight and twisting race tracks and can drift as well as break straight-line speed records, both for acceleration and V-MAX. I’ve driven Nevera since it first turned a wheel and to see the perfectly honed car that is today is a really emotional moment. The most important thing I have learned during the top-speed attempt is how composed and stable the car was – confirming that our aerodynamics and vehicle dynamics teams have done an amazing job.”
