Tata Motors confirms HBX name for upcoming micro-SUV!
After taking over the sales charts with the Nexon, Altroz, Tiago and the Nexon EV, Tata's next offering is eyeing the KUV100's spot.
Tata Motors has been on a launch roll recently. After unveiling the Altroz iTurbo, Safari and the Tigor EV, they’re now ready to take over another segment in terms of sales. Their micro-SUV which was dubbed as the H2X concept now has a name. The HBX. While Tata hasn’t revealed anything other than its name, this new teaser offers a close look at the Harrier inspired DRL’s.
Based on the H2X concept revealed at the 2019 Auto Expo, the HBX will be one of the only real challengers to the KUV100 from Mahindra which hasn’t been doing great in terms of sales. So much so that there were rumours of Mahindra planning to axe the KUV100. I think that still might be true.
The HBX’s pricing is supposed to be revealed in the coming month and Tata might give more details leading up to the launch. All we know for now is it sits below the Nexon and above the Tiago NRG. The pricing can be expected to start at around INR 5.5 lacs ex-showroom. And as we have known from Tata cars of the past, it is going to be a value for money offering.
As Tata announced at the Auto Expo 2020, the HBX will share its underpinnings with the Altroz making it the brand’s second product to be based on the modular ALFA architecture. The production-spec version of the HBX is expected to be quite close to the concept in size. The concept’s 3,840mm length, 1,822mm width, 1,635mm height and 2,450mm wheelbase was identical to that of the Tigor and one shouldn’t be surprised if the HBX is the same. The HBX is also going to rival Hyundai’s upcoming Casper micro-SUV which is also likely to affect the sales of the HBX. This could very well be the reason why the HBX is being considered for launch ASAP. After all, getting there first matters a lot!
