Daniel Ricciardo has tested positive for COVID-19, and will take no further part in the pre-season testing being held in Bahrain this week. The Aussie was under the weather and skipped yesterday’s test as well, and with this will now have to isolate for a few days at the least.
It hasn’t been an ideal start to the Bahrain test for McLaren at all- they just managed 59 laps in total on Day 2 of running, suffering issues with the brakes on regular occasions. Daniel’s positive RT-PCR test will certainly not do a job of boosting morale, as now the team faces the problem of temporarily not having a driver in their second seat! Daniel also had this to say on Twitter:
Better this week than next…
Unfortunate to miss the test, but I’m starting to feel better. I’ll stay isolated and just focus on next weekend.
Big thanks to Lando & McLaren for the heavy lifting, I owe you some beers (milk for Lando).
Appreciate the well wishes from everyone.— Daniel Ricciardo (@danielricciardo) March 11, 2022
This now leaves Lando to fulfil all the driving duties for the team across these 3 days of the Bahrain test, Lando having himself contracted COVID during the off-season. Daniel will surely be rueing the lost opportunity to get some valuable mileage in, though will certainly be hoping that come next week his RT-PCR comes back negative. Here’s to wishing that Daniel has a speedy recovery!
