Hyundai showcases Grand i10 NiOS Turbo variant at Auto Expo 2020 – Hot hatches in India!
Hyundai is joining the party started by Tata JTP for affordable hot hatches in India with the Grand i10 NiOS Turbo!
Hyundai launched the Grand i10 NiOS towards the end of 2019. This model was the successor for the Grand i10. As of now, the engine options for the model include a 1.2 liter BS6 compliant petrol engine and a 1.2 liter BS4 compliant diesel engine. Now, the company has made further plans to introduce the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine as well.
The turbo model made its Indian debut at the Auto Expo 2020. It is claimed by the company that the model is capable of producing 100 PS of power along with a torque of 172 Nm, with a manual transmission. The NiOS is based on the Dual Tone Sportz Variant and will be launched for the Indian consumers during March 2020.
The 1.0-litre turbo engine was first observed in the Hyundai Venue Compact SUV. Following that, the engine option was seen on the Hyundai Aura (sedan). For the Aura, the engine provides a performance power of 100 PS along with 17 Nm of torque. It is expected that the ride quality will be improved using a stiffer suspension set which results in handling and braking improvement.
To set the Turbo Grand i10 NiOS apart from its regular counterpart, the exterior of the new model has been updated. For example, there is an inclusion of a “Turbo” badge on the front grille and boot, the radiator grille has been blacked out, and the rear & front bumpers have been modified as well. The exterior of this model also comes with a dual-tone color scheme, which is the first time the company is offering it. Till now, there were only single solid color models. Furthermore, the model will be seen with red accents along with a sporty black interior.
Due to the upgrades made to this model, the price will be increased for the Grand i10 Turbo. The current NIOS is powered by a 1.2-liter petrol engine along with either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission. The price of the regular NiOS model ranges between INR 5.05 lakhs and 7.19 lakhs. It is expected that the Turbo NiOS will be offered with only the manual transmission option and the price will be hiked by at least 50k to 60k. And who wants an automatic transmission in a hot hatch anyway?
