BMW launches the limited-run M4 CSL globally

This version of the M4 will be the most powerful one yet, and is the fastest BMW roadcar to lap the famed Nordschleife!

BMW has launched the M4 CSL globally, and in doing so limited its production to just 1,000 units globally. It is also possibly the fastest BMW roadcar to date- it  is almost 100KG lighter and has over 40HP more than the M4 Competition, which might seem like a small thing until you realise how fast the M4 Competition is on its own!

BMW have well pulled off something spectacular with the CSL. Built on the same base as the Competition is, the CSL adds more of an emphasis on performance than ever before. A 3L inline 6-cylinder producing 550HP/650NM is mated to an 8-speed Steptronic gearbox, and performance is further enhanced thanks to an increase in boost pressure, though a great deal of the performance is achieved thanks to the reduction in weight.

Speaking of which, to reduce weight by over 100KG is no small feat, but it was achieved through clever re-engineering. The seats are now carbon bucket seats, while the outside sees new carbon ceramic brakes and new lightweight alloys, and also the use of new materials on the roof, bonnet and boot lid all reduce the weight even further. BMW went as far as to detail modifications to areas like the grille, rear lights, floormats and exhaust to save an extra 8KG in total!

The exterior is marvelous to look at on its own, though the car can be had in a new Frozen Brooklyn Grey metallic colour as is seen in most of the pictures. The headlights can also be had in yellow which has been done so to mimick famous and successful GT racing cars, while the rear has intricate light threads woven into them which are illuminated using laser technology, all of which means that the car is an absolute treat to look at.

On the inside, there’s new upholstery and even some new tech. The steering has new Alcantara leather, there’s special CSL badging all around the car, and there are even two helmets in the rear storage compartment. The tech onboard is also quite remarkable, as there’s BMW’s M Drive Professional inbuilt as well as a 12.3″ digital instrument cluster and a 10.25″ control display. There’s also safety features like Lane Depart Warning, Park Distance Control, Front Collision Warning, airbags and more as standard on the car.

The price for all this? A grand total of $140,895 needs to be forked out to acquire this unique sportscar. It is most certainly worth the price, and is set to start production in July this year. Regardless of whether this ends up being the last limited-run edition of the M4, it’s one which wil turn many heads.
