BREAKING: Mattia Binotto resigns as team principal of Scuderia Ferrari

The Italian boss served as team principal replacing Maurizio Arrivabene in 2019 being promoted from CTO.

Scuderia Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto has resigned from his post at Scuderia Ferrari confirming the rumors in the paddock claiming the same. Ferrari confirmed the news on Tuesday putting an end to almost two weeks of speculation for the same right from he end of the 2022 season. Binotto had originally joined the team as an engine engineer back in 1995 taking on his current role – encompassing the Gestione Sportiva department – ahead of the 2019 campaign as he was promoted from CTO. He replaced Maurizio Arrivabene.

After having a very challenging 2020 and 2021 season and losing out the title battle to Mercedes in 2019 with Vettel in the team, the 2022 season proved to be even harder as even the right car with the Ferrari team couldn’t get them any of the championships. Ferrari had rightly interpreted the new 2022 regulations and their car was, all things considered, really really fast. The loss was mostly a result of the strategy blunders and a few mistakes of their top driver Charles Leclerc. Overall, the strategy team at Ferrari had put up with some really questionable tactics which costed them both the championships. This further adds to the brand value of the team as a whole which affects sponsor pay and further deals which would be one of the many reasons of his shakeup.

The team added that “the process is underway to identify Scuderia Ferrari’s new Team Principal and is expected to be finalised in the new year”. “With the regret that this entails, I have decided to conclude my collaboration with Ferrari,” said Binotto. He added, “I am leaving a company that I love, which I have been part of for 28 years, with the serenity that comes from the conviction that I have made every effort to achieve the objectives set. I leave a united and growing team. A strong team, ready, I’m sure, to achieve the highest goals, to which I wish all the best for the future. I think it is right to take this step at this time as hard as this decision has been for me. “I would like to thank all the people at the Gestione Sportiva who have shared this journey with me, made up of difficulties but also of great satisfaction.” With this, it is also confirmed that Mattia Binotto will be leaving the Ferrari family itself with whom he stayed for a period of 28 years.
