Tata Motors will debut the Punch EV at Auto Expo 2023!

A near production guise Tata Punch EV will be showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo making it the first Tata car based on the Sigma platform to be electrified.

Tata Motors could showcase a near production-ready Tata Punch EV at the 2023 Delhi Auto Expo. This would make the Punch EV as the first car built on Tata’s Sigma platform to be converted into an EV. This could also mean a potentially adapted version of the ALFA platform will be used for the upcoming 4th EV in Tata’s EV lineup. Continuing with their immense first mover advantage and market share in the EV space, Tata Motors will go on with the aggressive electrification of almost their entire lineup. If sources are to be believed, Tata Motors could have an EV variant of almost all of their current offerings.

Coming over to the platform, Tata’s existing electric vehicles have been direct ICE to EV conversions. This will change with the Punch EV as it will be based on a new Sigma architecture. Sigma is basically a heavily modified architecture based on the ALFA architecture which was built with electrification in mind from the start. What this means is that these EVs based on the Sigma architecture will be lighter and more efficient offering better range. The ALFA underpins Altroz and Punch. Altroz EV is another hotly anticipated EV hatchback that we still expect to be unveiled alongside the Punch EV at the 2023 Delhi Auto Expo. The Sigma architecture will have to see certain changes, including but not limited to, a modification of the fuel tank area to serve the storage of batteries and offer a flat floor along with removal of the transmission tunnel.

Coming over to the pricing, you can expect the Punch EV to be priced overlapping the Tiago EV and the Altroz ICE with the top variant likely to be at least ₹1-1.5 lakhs more expensive than the top end Punch AMT. Apart from the Punch EV and the Altroz EV, Tata Motors could also showcase the Curvv EV and the Avninya concepts that they showcased in 2022.
