Skoda, a brand which was for all these years away from the electric vehicle scene for a long time has finally broken its silence and has announced that their first-ever electric SUV, the Enyaq. The electric SUV will be revealed on September 1st,2020. The Enyaq is one of the first additions of the 10 electric vehicles that the Czech brand plans to launch by end of 2022.
Skoda, along with announcing the date also revealed a sketch that shows the outlining of the vehicle. It is largely based on the Skoda Vision iV concept which was first revealed in 2019. It is also confirmed that it will be built on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform and will share most of its underpinnings and side panels with the VW ID3 SUV.
‘Enyaq’. Pretty strange name right? Well, Skoda has well thought of their first electric SUV. The ‘Enya’ word in Czech Republic means ‘source of life’ which is truly deep and philosophical from them. The ‘Q’ is added to continue the trend of Skoda’s existing combustion-engined SUVs like the Kodiaq, Karoq and Kamiq.
Talking about the powertrains, Skoda has made sure that people have more than enough choices. It will have three battery sizes, five power outputs and will be given options of rear and all-wheel drive. The most powerful unit will produce an impressive 204hp and will have an astonishing range of 500 km.
Time to address the elephant in the room. Will the Enyaq come to India? And sadly the answer is no. Let’s hope it happens soon but for now, Skoda is focused on the Karoq SUV and launching the Kodiaq petrol. They are also planning to introduce its Vision IN concept based midsize SUV in India.
