Genesis is Hyundai’s brand that deals in vehicles at the luxury end of the spectrum. That means Hyundai, ahem sorry, Genesis will be competing with the likes of well-established luxury brands, the likes of Audi, Mercedes and BMW and such, what this means is that if Genesis is to have a real chance to occupy any share of the market space, they’ve got to make their cars distinct, and quite Hyundai-ishly, they have.
Say hello, to the G70. It bears a strong resemblance to its brothers; the G80 and the GV80 SUV. The G70 gets Genesis’ distinct (and quite large in fact) diamond-shaped grill because nothing spells luxury for Diamonds really, and some very seek looking headlamp and taillamp assemblies, characterised by two sleek bars stacked vertically and separated by a slim body-coloured panel. Overall, the Genesis gets a very Sporty look, with large air vents just below the grill in the front, muscular rear haunches, a boot lip spoiler shaped trunk design, and dual oval exhausts in the rear end. In fact, the silhouette reminds you a lot of that of the BMW 5 series from the side.
The interior features a driver-oriented design and hosts the latest in connectivity options. you’ve got a new 10.25-inch infotainment system, with OTA updates, Android Auto and Apple Carplay, and well, obviously Wireless Charging, it’s 2020!
The G70 will be powered by a familiar turbocharged 2.4 litre 4 cylinder which will produce 290-hp, replacing the outgoing model’s turbo 2.0 litre. There will also be a more powerful twin-turbocharged 3.5 litre V6 available as an option for people who prefer a little more umph in their Hyundai, ahem I mean, Genesis. However, Genesis has chosen to scrap the Manual transmission on the G70 for the 2022 model year.
The New G70 will also be available in a shooting brake (wagon) model and will go on sale in South Korea starting next month.
