A Ferrari V6 Hybrid Mule Spotted
Low on cylinders and has been electrified - the definition of a Ferrari has changed!
Coming from the House of Maranello, this latest Ferrari carries the Prancing Horse’s tradition of electrifying some of its prominent models – LaFerrari back in 2013, the SF90 Stradale in 2019. What began with a hybrid V12, later was found to become a plug-in hybrid V8, and now, by the grace of the Euro 7 regs due by 2025, a V6 hybrid motor is set to continue the Ferrari tradition.
Carrying the F171 codename (most-likely), the new electrified Ferrari is rumored (acc. to FerrariChat) to go official in April before entering production after the summer break. However, amidst all of this, a test mule, using a modified body sourced from a 488 GTB, has been spotted by Walter Vayr roaming the streets of Italy. Here, take a look.
It would be too early (and insane) to talk about the exterior since the test vehicle was wearing an old Ferrari body (a 488 GTB) with some changes required for the testing mule. The hybrid V6 was announced back in September 2018, so it is coming. Battle for the hybrid V6 supremacy would be the one to watch out for as it will face the McLaren Artura, also boasting a hybrid V6 and some electrification, when it makes its debut by mid-February, 2021.
This soon-to-arrive new Ferrari won’t be called the “Dino” as was previously believed to be, however, it could be called the “486”. Again, nothing is confirmed, just speculations. Speaking of speculations, Ferrari loves to stay tight-lipped over integral information so we all have to wait until everything is official.
The engine to take the “Ferrari” badging would be a twin-turbo 2.9L V6, borrowed from Alfa Romeo’s Quadrifoglio range, and would be arriving with two outputs. The more-serious version will be a PHEV capable of making nearly 723bhp! Woking should be working on their engine, then.
This model, along with the Italian marque’s first-ever SUV, was in the 2018-2022 roadmap and so, it is only sane to suggest that the “486” is coming soon, and is coming fast!
