The 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser has been spied!

The leaked images suggest the Japanese automaker has a production model ready and set for a global unveil in the coming months.

Toyota seems all set for the launch of its next-gen Land Cruiser as the recently leaked spy shots give us a fair glimpse of what could the upcoming SUV look like. Going by the leaked images the next-gen SUV’s exterior looks majorly updated while retaining the boxy upright muscular proportions of its predecessor.

On the front, the new Land Cruiser’s nose now seems to have a bolder chrome grille with thick slats surrounded by a U-shaped contrasting gloss black intake which starts below the headlight units on both sides. The new headlamps themselves are new and now comes with projector units complimented with LED daytime running lamps. Another major change is the position of ORVMs, which now is mounted on the doors instead of the windows, like the Prado.

The fog lamps now sit wider on the edges of the front bumper and have chrome housing around them. The squared out wheel arches also seem larger and will be incasing multiple alloy wheel options ranging from 17-inch to 20-inch. The rear profile picture indicates the same boxy theme carried over from the current-gen SUVs without a major change. We can expect the two rear tailgate designs just like the outgoing model with a flat tailgate.

On the inside, the 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser will get a new multi-spoke steering wheel and digital instrument console as seen in the leaked pictures in February 2021. It will also have a new and bigger 12.3-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system featuring the latest connectivity options. We expect additional features on the upcoming Land Cruiser to step up its game against the competition.

These could include automatic climate control, heated and ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging, electronic parking brake and a push start/stop button with a fingerprint scanner. Physical buttons for differential lock, lane support, 4WD mode and adaptive cruise control will be other welcome features.

Internally codenamed as J300, the SUV is expected to ditch its standard 4.6-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine for a 3.5-litre V6 twin-turbo-petrol unit. A 3.3L, 6-cylinder turbocharged diesel will also be most likely offered in select markets. A 10-inch torque convertor automatic gearbox can be mated with the engines.

The global launch of the 2022 Land Cruiser could be scheduled somewhere in the second half of this year or early next year. The flagship SUV from Toyota will most likely come as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) in the Indian market like the ongoing model and will have a price tag of around Rs 2 crore.
