Tata continues the Hexa with Safari Edition concept!

The true blue body-on-frame SUV by Tata motors continues to live. The Tata Hexa when launched, was lauded for its rugged styling, bold stance and features like the driving modes. Hexa pleased the off-roaders as well due to its massive abilities and that 400NM of torque from the VARICOR 400. But, when the average monthly sales figures of the Hexa went as low as 100 units, rumors spread out that Tata won’t be updating this beast for BS6.

But, in July of 2019, news from Tata motors came that the Hexa will get the BS6 engine upgrade. Fast forward to now, Tata showcased the Hexa Safari edition concept. There is nothing new with the car apart from two things. First, the car will get a BS6 compliant VARICOR 400 engine with the same power figures as before and second, the pricing. The car might get around 1 to1.3 lakh INR more expensive than the BS4 Hexa.

You must now be wondering as to why would Tata Motors retain this when they have already showcased the Gravitas 7-seater. Well, it is simple. Before the Harrier, Hexa was Tata’s flagship vehicle. But, it continues to be its only 7-seater car even after the Harrier’s launch. The Gravitas on the other hand, will arrive on Indian roads by H1 of FY2021 which means they need to fill the gap for over an year in the 7 seat SUV segment. Hence, the Hexa retains its place.

What will be interesting to see is whether the Hexa will be able to garner any more sales with this revision because the XUV500 has also reached its endgame. Interesting battle to watch!
