Mercedes to launch the C63 AMG Coupe and the AMG GT R in India on the 27th of May
The launch of these high performance vehicles will take place virtually to follow Covid 19 precautionary measures.
The launch of performance vehicles really does seem to fan the air of somber negativity caused due to Coronavirus. Mercedes Benz India had recently announced that they would be starting operations in their Chakan plant, and now with this announcement, the launch of their 2 speed demons has been confirmed. The AMG C63 will be the top of the line variant offered by Mercedes in India, and the GT R will be the fastest Mercedes production vehicle available in India.
The AMG C63 Coupe will be powered by a 4.0 litre V8 Biturbo petrol engine which will be good enough to make 476 PS and 650 NM of torque, while being coupled to AMG’s fabulous 9 speed torque converter automatic transmission. The C class received its significant face lift in 2018, and since then it has been updated just enough to keep it relevant in the market.
The C 63 shares a few design cues from the C class, but apart from that, its designing is quite different. For starters, it is a 2 door vehicle with a much more swooping roofline, and it also sports AMG’s trademark ‘Panamericana’ grille. Furthermore, the boot of the coupe gets a black shadowed spoiler and 18 inch 10 spoke alloy wheels which makes the demeanour of this vehicle even sportier.
The powertrain of the vehicle is A+, so are the exteriors, and the interior equipment levels are exquisite as well. The C63 Coupe is a good place to be in for audiophiles as it has a 9 speaker music system which is mated with a 225W amplifier. Along with this you get a 12.3 inch instrument cluster, and as its an AMG vehicle, this cluster gets 3 display options, them being, Classic, Sporty and Supersport.
Furthermore, Mercedes offers traction modes, AMG spec drive, and AMGs almost magical Ride Control. If you are one who wants a sedan, which offers great luxury, is feature packed and is capable of heart throbbing performance, while not being being obnoxiously long and being more sedan like, then this would be the pick for you. However, the price of this vehicle could be stinger, the last generation AMG C 63 had a price tag of Rs. 1.60 crores, so expect this to be priced around that mark.
The GT R has also found its way into our Indian markets, and it shares the 4.0 litre bi-turbo engine from the C63 AMG and other AMG models. But this engine goes into the GT R so, it had to be beefed up, and Mercedes managed to so as this engine makes 585 PS and 700 NM of torque in the GT R. This 4.0 litre engine is combined with a 7 speed dual clutch automatic transmission. The GT R is capable of accelerating from naught to 100 in matter of 3.6 seconds. If you felt the AMG C63 Coupe was going to be expensive, the GT Rs price would astound you as it will be priced close to 2.20 crores.
