Audi has unveiled the new R8 Coupe V10 GT RWD as the last model that will feature the R8 nameplate as we know it. This will mark the end of 12 long years of service after the first-ever R8 GT badge was introduced. The last solely petrol powered R8 in its extreme configuration will have a limited quantity of 333 units, as this year marks the end of R8’s production run. While the R8 debuted in 2006, Audi introduced the R8 GT in 2010 as a hardcore version of the mid-engine sports car with lighter weight and more power. It had the RWD-only setup, making it a sportier to drive car than the Quattro version. While the dawn is setting on the R8, the V10 GT RWD we will experience is also more powerful and lightweight than the standard R8 V10 RWD.
The 5.2-litre V10 produces a massive 602bhp which is 562bhp in the standard version and 565 Nm, that pushes it from 0 to 100kmph in a meager time of 3.4 seconds. It can run at 200kmph from 0 in just 10.1 seconds and has a top speed limited to 320kmph. Along with the naturally-aspirated engine is a seven-speed DCT which is optimized for faster shift times, altered gear ratios, and Audi’s Torque Rear mode. The total shedding of the car has amounted to 20kg, majorly from the 20-inch alloys wrapped in Michelin Sport Cup 2 tyres along with bucket seats and CFRP anti-roll bar.
The company has placed ceramic brakes as standard for this one and also, making the last R8 GT special is the intake manifold in all-black. There is a special element in the form of blacked-out ‘R8 GT’ badges all around with special Carbon Aerokit in high gloss. When you enter the cabin, Audi R8 GT has the original 2010 R8 GT with a combination of black and red. The owners of the limited 344 models also get a sequential numbering of their R8 GT in the middle of the center console — next to the gear selector lever, partially matted in the carbon inlay. Audi R8 will be leaving all the markets next year.
