Images of the Volkswagen ID.4 have been leaked

On launch the ID4 will be offered in 2 versions, ID.4 Crozz and ID.4X.

Bookings of the Volkswagen’s ID.3 began from the 17th of June in some countries, and once the ID.3 is released, it is rumoured that the ID4 suv too would be launched. We hadn’t had a good look at the ID4 but thanks to the recent leaks from the China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the images of the electric Volkswagen suv have now been leaked.

Looks of the ID.4

As per the images seen, it appears that the ID.4 has been leaked in its production ready form. It seems to share design cues from the ID.3, especially the front fascia which looks quite similar between the two. Rumours suggest that the ID.4 will be released in 2 forms, the ID.4 Crozz and ID.4X, and these 2 models will differ cosmetically due to the different LED headlamps and tail lights, the front and rear bumpers, and a few other design elements.

With the ID.4, Volkswagen has tried to build a vehicle with the driving dynamics of sports car, which is also capable of off-roading adventures. Further leaks have also provided us with the dimensions of the vehicle, ID.4 will be 4,592 mm long, 1,852 mm wide and 1,629 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,765 mm. The interiors are not a part of the images that have been leaked, but it is being rumoured that a simple yet technologically advanced dashboard which will support voice functions or touch functionality.

The mechanicals of the ID.4

Volkswagen’s first electric suv will be offered in 2 motor options, a single motor rear wheel drive option and another dual-motor, 4WD option. In terms of power, it is believed that the rear wheel drive motor will sport 203 ps and 310 Nm of torque while the 4WD variant will have 306 ps and 450 Nm.

Talking about the battery, the ID.4 could employ 83kWh unit battery which would theoretically provide a range of 500km on the WLTP test cycle. A fast charging system will also be provided which would charge the vehicle from 0-80% within 30 minutes on a 125-150 kW system.

Would we see it in India?

Now that would be a challenging question, during the Auto Expo where the ID. Crozz had been showcased, Juergen Stackmann, member of the board of management for sales, marketing and after-sales of Volkswagen said that company was considering to launch the electric line up in India, However, there is no official time period as to when we could see the EV line up of Volkswagen in India. As for the ID.4, on launching in the USA, Germany and China, it will be taking on the Tesla Model Y.
