Coronavirus strikes F1! Sergio Perez tested positive for COVID-19

The Racing point driver was tested before British GP.

Coronavirus has left nothing untouched. This deadly and vicious virus has spread its terror in all parts of society. From celebrities to politicians, from scientists to footballers, it’s everywhere. And now it has also attacked our beloved F1, with Racing point driver Sergio Perez testing positive for COVID-19.

The Racing Point driver was tested positive before the coming British GP and is set to miss it. Although all the members and Perez himself will be quarantined, the British GP will still go on and Racing Point will go into the GP with Nico Hulkenberg as his replacement which raced for them back in 2012 and also from 2014-2016.

Pérez is also set to miss next week’s 70th Anniversary GP at the same venue. Racing Point has confirmed that he is “physically well and in good spirits.” which is great news.

During the starting of the season F1 boss, Chase Carey made it clear that the virus won’t have any effect on the season and even if members of a team or even a driver are found positive, the race won’t be cancelled. He has also made sure that everybody gets a same environment. Along with rigorous testing and social distancing,  all team members are restricted to interacting within their own biospheres or bubbles.

“With assistance of the local organiser of the British Grand Prix, local health authorities and the FIA COVID-19 delegate, a full track and trace initiative has been undertaken and all close contacts have been quarantined. The procedures set out by the FIA and Formula 1 have provided for swift containment of an incident that will have no wider impact on this weekend’s event,” a statement from F1 read.
