2021 Tata Safari launched! – Starts at Rs. 14.69 lacs

The new flagship SUV is now officially launched with full pricing of all models.

The much-anticipated, 2021 avatar the legendary Tata Safari has been launched today, with prices that begin from INR 14.69L (ex-showroom, Delhi). As we previously mentioned, Tata had already opened bookings for the new SUV earlier this month at INR 30,000.

To get you back on track, here are some highlights –

  • The Safari shares its underpinnings with its younger-cousin Harrier, albeit is both, taller and longer.
  • Arrives with a Fiat-sourced 2.0L Kryotec turbocharged engine that produces 170hp.
  • As opposed to the previous information, the 2021 Tata Safari will now be offered in 7 variants – XE, XM, XT, XT+, XZ, XZ+, and the Adventure Persona Edition.

Speaking of the newly-introduced Adventure Persona Edition, Tata Motors has decided to throw in several cosmetic changes, both inside and out, that also includes an all-exclusive blue color called ‘Tropical Mist’. The special edition’s prices begin from INR 20.20L, which has black alloys, blacked-out tri-arrow front grille. The interior of the new Safari also receives a brown and white finish, instead of the black and white combination in the ‘standard’ variant.

Variants & Features

The 2021 Safari is Tata’s second vehicle to be built on the Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced Architecture (OMEGARC) derived from the D8 platform of Land Rover. The SUV boasts a chrome-studded tri-arrow front grille, Xenon HID projector headlamps, dual-function LED DRLs with turn indicators, signature twin-light LED taillamps, 18-inch alloys, dual-tone front bumper, stepped roof, roof spoiler, and much more.

For the third row (a reason why the 2021 Safari is so famous), there is 889 mm of headroom, 832 mm of legroom, and 463 mm of thigh support on offer. Safari gets a dedicated AC unit with vents, USB mobile charger, mobile holder, cup holder, reading lamp.

Safety

Six airbags, ABS with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Disc-Brakes on all four wheels, tyre pressure monitoring system, Perimetric Alarm System, Hill Descent Control, Child Seat ISOFIX, TC, and Hill Hold Control with ESP as standard – some of the integral safety systems on the 2021 Safari.

Engine & Gearbox

As we’ve talked about earlier, the all-new flagship SUV from Tata Motors will borrow the Fiat-sourced 2.0L Kryotec turbocharged diesel motor (used in the Harrier) which produces 170hp and 350Nm of torque with either a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed torque converter.

As for its rivals, it goes against the MG Hector Plus, the current-gen Mahindra XUV 500. However, the competition will only rise when Mahindra launches its next-gen XUV 500, and Hyundai unveils its seven-seater SUV based on the Creta.

If Tata starts putting serious efforts in their after sales service and getting the maintenance costs near to the likes of Toyota, we could be seeing at a market leader here. I can even say that maybe this one takes the cake from the much more expensive SUV’s.
