Upcoming McLaren Hybrid Supercar Spied
While there has been no official word on when McLaren will finally show us the car in all its glory, the British carmaker has said that it is eager to.
There are reports of a McLaren adding a new car to their current roster of agile performers. The new car, that will slot in between the 720s and the GT. While McLaren teased the model earlier this month, some new spy shots (via Motor1) have just come in, showing that the new McLaren might already be production-ready.
While we don’t know much about the model just yet, we do know that the new hybrid McLaren will feature a ton of new tech, and power will come from a newly developed V6 paired with an unspecified number of electric motors. If rumours are to be believed, the car will also be able to cover some distance on electric power alone.
The new McLaren hybrid will use a new carbon-fibre chassis called MCLA and employ a number of new chassis, engine and electrical architecture systems among others. Quite fittingly then McLaren called it “one of the most significant unveiling” for the company.
The spy shots show what looks like a more aggressive version of the McLaren GT, to put it simply. Even with the heavy camo wrap, the car looks quintessentially McLaren, with front lighting clusters especially reminiscent of the 720s, along the sides you find deep scallops leading to a large air intake behind the doors, while the rear looks properly McLaren with distinctive two exhaust tips mounted high, right above the rear bumper.
While there has been no official word on when McLaren will finally show us the car in all its glory, the British carmaker has said that it is eager to. The car looks close to ready for production, so we could see the car debut early next year.
