VW Taigun production-spec to be unveiled on 31st March

The Taigun is the smallest SUV to come out of Volkswagen's plants for India.

The Taigun is, without any doubt, one of the most important models for the German marque in India and is also the first product under its India 2.0 strategy. VW is thus, aiming to disrupt the party of the market leaders such as the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos with its Taigun. So then, with their ambition as high as mentioned above, what can be expected from the Taigun?

For starters, it will be more-or-less similar to the concept shown at the Auto Expo 2020 and will mirror the styling of the Tiguan. It will also be based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, the same as Skoda Kushaq, and will measure 4.2-metres in length and have a 2.6-meter wheelbase, which is longer than most of its rivals.

On the inside, you’re expected to receive German quality bits and pieces and a long list of features that will include a sunroof, 10-inch infotainment system to name a few. Not to mention the exemplary German fit and finish of a Volkswagen.

The engine-gearbox options include a 1.0L, turbo-petrol motor churning out 115hp and a 1.5L, turbo-petrol unit producing 150hp. Both the motors will come with a 6-speed MT. There will also be a DCT unit, but that will be exclusively for the 1.5L engine.

As far as the competition goes, the VW Taigun will line-up against Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Nissan Kicks. Prices are expected to be revealed within a few months. Until then, let us know, which SUV will you choose, and why.
