Robert Kubica to drive in FP1 for Alfa Romeo at the Styrian Grand Prix

Kubica will be Alfa's reserve driver for the 2020 season. The Polish driver's 2019 comeback with Williams wasn't as successful as expected.

Robert Kubica has made a switch to Alfa Romeo as a reserve driver, and this season he will be driving Antonio Giovinazzi’s C39 at the first practice session in the Red Bull Ring on Friday. Robert said, “I am looking forward to returning to action this weekend, especially after the long break the whole world of motorsport had to observe.

Last season, he was driving for Williams and he gained a single point, which was pretty much the only point the team had scored all year at the German Grand Prix.  My objective, as always, is to provide as much data as possible for our engineers and to give them my feedback from within the cockpit.”

Furthermore while talking about the experience of racing, he said, “This weekend will be quite a new experience for everyone, racing in the same venue we were on just a few days ago, so it will be a matter of refining all the data we collected over the course of the Austrian Grand Prix and testing the adjustments we want to make to the cars.”

The Alfa F1 team’s head honcho, Frederic Vasseur is glad to have Kubica with them, and while talking about this he said, “A driver with his experience always comes up with valuable feedback and he’ll be able to help us continue learning about our car.Robert was with the team last weekend, of course, and so he is fully aware of everything that was discussed in the engineering meetings and during each session: it’ll be a chance for him to experience the car by himself and, armed with that knowledge, help us progress further.”

When the team had a mixed race, 3 days back, Giovinazzi returned back with 2 points after securing the 9th position, and Kimi Raikkonen on the other hand suffered an unexpected exit after his wheel went loose after entering the final corner on the track.
