Mercedes rolls in the Maybach GLS 600 4Matic in India! – Priced at Rs. 2.43 crore

The first batch of 50+ flagship SUV from the German automaker have already been sold out and the next allocation will arrive in Q1 of 2022.

After making its global debut in November 2019, the Mercedes Maybach GLS 600 finally reached the Indian shores today. The debut SUV in the Maybach lineup is based on the GLS-Class but comes with extra plush and premiums of the German automaker’s luxury wing. Comfort and capable of GLS with the luxury of Maybach? YES PLEASE!

Although based on the Benz GLS 600, the first Maybach SUV’s exterior has been restyled that gives its own identity. On the front, the nose grille with the Mercedes three-pointed star has been replaced with a Maybach signature vertical louvre chrome one. The three-pointed star now sits on the hood as an ornament like the old Mercedes vehicles. Another noticeable change includes the larger 22-inch wheels that come with bespoke multi-spoke alloys. There’s also an option of 23-inchers for those looking for even bigger option. The SUV features a heavy dose of chrome throughout the exterior and flaunts a special dual-tone exterior paint.

The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4Matic is the flagship SUV from the brand and the cabin truly resonates that. The interior design and features though are carried over from the standard GLS, it pushes the boundaries even further with more luxurious touches. The Maybach GLS 600 gets the option for a 4- or 5-seater cabin, and it comes with a 3135 mm long wheelbase, out of which the rear passengers get legroom of 1103 mm.

However, in either case, the two outermost rear seats get the reclining function. The 4-seater version will get a fixed centre console that has space for a refrigerator to store champagne bottles, along with silver champagne flutes. The ultra-comfortable and bolstered ventilated massaging seats comes with Nappa leather upholstery. The premium wood inserts on the centre panel and steering offer the interiors a more elegant and lavish feel and finish. There’s also the wide dual-screen display on the front for infotainment and instrument cluster with the MBUX system. The new Mercedes-Maybach flaunts an electronic panoramic sliding/tilting sunroof with opaque roller blinds. The list further extends with Four-zone climate control, automatically extending side steps, adaptive air suspension, rear seats with memory function, massaging seats front and rear, the chauffeur package to adjust the co-driver seat from the rear, a rear seat tablet to control in-car functions, 360 degree camera, Burmester sound system and more.

Powering this luxury on wheels is a 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 engine paired with the EQ-Boost mild-hybrid system. The engine comes mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. The powertrain churns out 557hp with 730Nm of torque, however, the top speed is limited to 250 km/h. Despite its two-and-a-half tonne weight, the Maybach GLS 600 can sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds.

Talking about safety, Mercedes has packed in the Maybach SUV with eight airbags, ABS, ESP, lane keep assist, blind sport assist, active brake and steering assist and tyre pressure monitoring to name a few.

The new 2021 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4Matic has been launched in India at a starting price of Rs. 2.43 crore (ex-showroom, India). But the first batch of 50+ Maybach GLS 600 have already been sold out informed Martin Schwenk, MD & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India during the launch event. The automaker has currently started working on the next allocation which will only arrive in Q1 2022. The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 competes against the likes of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Bentley Bentayga and the Range Rover Autobiography.
