BMW X1 20i Tech Edition launched in India; prices start at INR 43 Lacs

The new range-topping X1 variant now comes with added features & modern technology.

BMW has just given an upgrade to the global leader in the premium compact sports activity vehicle (SAV) segment, dubbed the BMW X1 20i Tech Edition. As the name suggests, the best is now much better with an added list of new tech features which will take the sheer driving pleasure to a next level. What are these updates, let’s find out.

First off, the 20i Tech Edition can now be had with a much larger 10,25-inch central infotainment unit, as opposed to the 8.8-inch unit found in other X1 variants. The high-res 10.25-inch screen offers touch functionality while the iDrive rotary controller is still present on the center console. With this, the maker has also added a new HUD, wireless charging function, and a 205W HiFi loudspeaker system “which conjures an engrossing treat for the ears.”

On the outside, there aren’t any changes, apart from the fact that you now get new 18-inch light-alloy wheels for an added sportier appeal. The 20i Tech Edition is also available in two exciting paint schemes – Alpine White and Phytonic Blue (Metallic) with Sensatec Oyster Black upholstery.

Elsewhere, the design remains the same, both on the outside and inside. You still have the analog instrument cluster and the steering wheel which also looks quite dated. Perhaps, a facelift or even a new-gen X1 will change that. A large Panorama Glass Roof, ambient lighting with six dimmable designs creates an atmosphere for every mood.

Further, the X1 offers electrical seat adjustment for both driver (with memory function) and passenger. The rear seat backrest can be reclined and offers a center armrest with 2 cup-holders for added comfort. On the safety front, you get six airbags, Attentiveness Assistance, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) including Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), electric parking brake with auto hold, side-impact protection, electronic vehicle immobilizer, and crash sensor, ISOFIX child seat mounting, to name a few.

Powering the X1 20i Tech Edition is a 2.0L, 4-cyl, turbocharged petrol motor churning out 192hp and 280Nm of torque. Transmission duties are handled by a 7-speed Steptronic Sport auto ‘box. You also are welcomed by wheel-mounted paddle shifters and launch control.

Mr. Vikram Pawah, President, BMW Group India said, “BMW India holds the dominant position in the premium compact sports activity vehicle (SAV) segment. With the BMW X1 20i Tech Edition, we are once again strengthening the ‘Power of Choice’ for customers looking to enter this segment. With newly added features, modern technology, and powerful performance, this exclusive limited-edition combines the best of both worlds. It meets the varied mobility needs and fits in perfectly with the attitude and lifestyle of ambitious future leaders who are redefining success – personally and professionally.”
