Kia has just taken the wraps off the much-anticipated Carens RV, which is the company’s fourth model in the country. The unveil saw many features being highlighted, and Kia confirmed that the car would be launched sometime early next year in India.
Kia confirmed that the car would have petrol and diesel engines though didn’t specify which ones, so we can expect it to have the same engines as the Seltos. This would mean that we would likely see 1.4L turbocharged and 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engines, and a 1.5L diesel engine. Though the engines are similar to the Seltos, Kia could up the power by a bit for the Carens. As for the gearbox, the car will likely have options between CVT and DCT automatics and iMT manual transmissions.
On the inside, the car is quite tech-loaded, with an all-digital instrument cluster, and a 10.25″ infotainment system, and an 8″ system on lower variants. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Kia’s UVO will also be offered as standard, so as to allow ease of access while driving. There is also an option between 6 and 7 seats, with the 6-seater having captain seats while the 7-seater has one-touch drop down seats, a first in segment feature.
In terms of looks and dimensions, the car is quite big and it has the largest wheelbase in it’s class as well. Here’s the full dimensions:

The car is for all intents and purposes an MPV, and is very spacious. The front and rear bumpers are big and bold, and the front sees Y-shaped DRL’s along with LED headlamps. The rear lights are connected via an LED strip as well, and it will certainly help the car stand out amongst the crowd. There is also a sunroof and roof rails to give the car that extra bit of appeal, and there are chrome designs on both the front and rear bumpers.
Competition for the car will likely be in the form of the Hyundai Alcazar, Toyota Innova and the Maruti XL6.
As clear details like price weren’t released at today’s unveil, we can’t definitively comment on how the car could fare against the competition. We should get some more updates over the next few weeks, the most important of which will be the price. So, let’s wait and find out how the car would fare against the competition!
