Koenigsegg aims the super-sonic title with the Jesko Absolut

Koenigsegg is a boutique car manufacturer… that’s a rather false statement today. While it was true almost 5 years ago, today Koenigsegg is as demanded, dreamt of and important, as a Kohinoor diamond. The sheer excellence and passion of one man has come to a point where their cars can go as fast as jets!

And on that note, welcome the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut. As soon as Christian launched the Jesko at Geneva in 2019, he had confirmed that a faster variant is in works and would release soon. An year later, we have it. To put it in a gist, the Jesko Absolut has a theoretical top speed of 550 km/hr. GULP! And if you’re wondering about the “theoretical”, the Agera RS had a theoretical top speed of around 280 MPH and it ended up having an actual average figure of 277 MPH. That too on a public highway (closed down) in Nevada USA. So not nearly as perfect as Bugatti’s world war era track in Germany. The car had gone to a mind-numbing top speed (one side) of 284 MPH so obviously… you get it what Koenigsegg means with the theoretical figures.

Christian Von Koenigsegg also stated that this will be the fastest car that Koenigsegg will EVER produce. This is it folks! The fastest Koenigsegg will ever make and most probably, the fastest road-legal homologated production car that the world will ever see.

The Engineering

Every surface element on the Jesko Absolut has been purposefully constructed to reduce drag or surrounding turbulence around the car while increasing high-speed stability. Although just as powerful, the Jesko Absolut is a more seamless and stealthier interpretation of the Jesko, its track-focused sibling.

The Jesko Absolut has a drag coefficient value of only 0.278 Cd. The low drag in combination with a frontal area of 1.88 m2 in combination with a power level of minimum 1600 bhp, make the Jesko Absolut destined to achieve higher, more extraordinary speeds than any Koenigsegg or any other fully homologated car before it. Koenigsegg had run multiple simulations and have done the math which proves that it CAN (read will) do upto 550 Km/hr.

The dramatic streamlining of the Jesko Absolut and the lack of a massive spoiler, gives the Jesko Absolut a sleek appearance. The two fins that replace the rear spoiler take inspiration from the F-15 fighter jets that come equipped with similar and iconic double vertical stabilisers. If you ever wonder why they all have ghost logos well, Koenigsegg’s factory is a warehouse for the Ghost squadron stealth fighters. Hence, the aim to build jet-fast cars.

At the heart of the Jesko Absolut is the 1600 bhp (when running on E85 fuel), twin-turbocharged V8 engine fitted with a 180-degree crankshaft that enables an 8500-rpm rev limit. The engine is connected to the Koenigsegg-developed and produced nine-speed Light Speed Transmission (LST) system that enables gear changes in virtually zero time from any gear to any other gear – regardless of how many gears are skipped.

Ultimate Power On Demand (UPOD) – a predictive gear-change technology that ensures instant, prolific power and always available in the correct gear for maximum acceleration, is part of the control strategy for LST. It’s all the same as the “normal” Jesko.

Daily drive-ability

Given that the front suspension is more compact than the track focused Jesko and that front hood air dam is removed in order to reduce down force and drag – It is possible to stow the roof in the front of the Absolut.

As the down force is less, the suspension could be made a bit softer, which makes the Absolut very fun and forgiving around a race track and truly comfortable and “streetable”. Moreover, the Jesko’s design is inspired from the sky and so is that big moonroof in this car. The cockpit truly is out of this world.

The pricing is stipulated to be around $3 million and all 125 examples are already sold out which means that they are already gaining value, a couple of thousand dollars per day. Oh and one more thing! Both the Jesko and the Absolut are capable of attaining a one:1 power to weight ratio. Sometimes it feels like Koenigsegg has cheat codes and this is nothing but a GTA game.
