Acura had launched the final hurrah for the NSX – the 2022 NSX Type S! But wait, that’s not the news, not the major one at least. The stage where the Honda’s luxury wing announced the retirement of its supercar became the spot for the revival of another Japanese legend – the Integra. Yes, the masterpiece, the best front-wheel-drive sports car ever made, it’s coming back. Acura confirmed during this year’s Monterey Car Week that it would relaunch the Integra in 2022.
Well, the Acura Integra needs no introduction. In the ’90s, many loved the Integra for its cheap-thrills combo of agility and practicality. The hatchback established a reputation as being easy to get, fun to drive, and reliable. The Type-R was also considered a factory-ready dream machine with all the right ingredients out of the box. A nimble chassis, close-ratio five-speed manual, helical LSD, and of course, the B18C5 engine that revs to almost 9,000 RPM. Alas, the nameplate surrendered to the brand’s succession of letter designations as the nondescript RSX in 2001. And in March 2006, Honda finally announced that the Integra would be discontinued in June 2006, after its final 300 cars were sold.
But the legend is back with a bang, quite literally, actually. The relaunch announcement was nothing less than an extravagant deal. With an elaborate drone show, Acura presented a teaser image on the screen during the Monterey Car Week on Thursday, showing snippets of the nose and new Integra’s headlight with its name engraved right beneath. The LED headlight looks very similar to that of the TLX. The grille seems to be complex, and the hood also flaunts some seriously aggressive details.

If we have to take a wild guess, we would say, the new Integra will most probably share it’s platform with the 2022 Honda Civic. But we’ve to wait till next year for the full-body images before we make any actual claims.
To put the finishing touches on the tease, Jon Ikeda, Vice President and Brand Officer at Acura, had this to say, “The Integra is back. I’m thrilled to say Integra is returning to the Acura lineup with the same fun-to-drive spirit and DNA of the original, fulfilling our commitment to Precision Crafted Performance in every way – design, performance and the overall driving experience.”
Later tomorrow, Acura also added the teaser video on all its social media pages as well. One thing we want to address here, though, after years of rumours about the Integra’s return, no one was ready for this sudden announcement, at least we weren’t to be honest. But now that’s it’s actually happening, we just can’t wait for it. Other than the teaser video, Acura has not revealed any other details regarding the specifications or features yet, but we can bet it will be going to be one of the most highlighted launches of 2022.
