Pictures of the Toyota Hilux are making the rounds, as the car was spotted testing in Gurugram for an ad shoot. The pickup truck is one of the company’s most popular models, and the version captured in these pictures seems to be the double-cab variant, with a few additional features included as well. Some of us might remember this car from Top Gear’s unique “Killing a Toyota” segment which aired a long time ago, or even from the time they took it to the North Pole!
The pickup is quite a big one- measuring in at around 5,285mm in length and having a 3,085mm wheelbase. Looks-wise, the car is quite bold, with the front having a chromed hexagonal grille, sharp LED headlamps with DRL’s, massive wheel arches and a chromed rear bash plate as well. There is also a side step and large chromed-out sport bars as well.
As this is a big pickup which needs a lot of powerrrr, the engine needs a good bit of oomph. It’s expected that the Hilux will have the same engine as the Innova and Fortuner, with options between a 2.4L and 2.8L respectively from each car being available. There could also be an option between a manual and an automatic, with higher variants also possibly getting a 4X4 system.
As for the interior, it would likely resemble the Innova or Fortuner in this aspect as well. Pricing could slot the car in the 25-35 lakh range, and it’s possible there may not be many variants available given how cost-cutting and sourcing of local components may limit the number of variants. Competition for the car would be in the form of the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross given how limited pickups are in India, so let’s wait a bit longer to find out whether our suspicions were right or not!
