Fernando Alonso’s race-driven 2004 Renault is up for auction!

This is the same chassis that was used in the Chinese, Japanese and Brazilian GP's of that year.

After Lewis Hamilton’s race-winning McLaren MP4-25 was sold last year at an RM Sotheby’s auction for a whopping $6.6 million, Fernando Alonso’s race-driven Renault R24 will now be sold as well. RM Sotheby’s has announced that they will be auctioning off Alonso’s R24 chassis used in the Chinese, Japanese and Brazilian GP’s of 2004, where he finished 4th, 5th and 4th respectively. Though, given the rarity of being an actual race driven F1 car that too driven by Fernando Alonso, the estimates for its selling price range from $500k – $750k.

The R24 chassis won one race that year at the hands of Jarno Trulli in Monaco, and though Alonso couldn’t notch up any wins, he did take 4 podiums over the course of the year. The chassis was also driven by world champion Jacques Villeneuve when he joined the team following Trulli being fired from the team after Monza. This chassis is tailored to Alonso’s needs, such as the seating position, steering wheel and placement and similar.

The car was the predecessor to the title-clinching R25, which will always be remembered as the car that halted Ferrari and Michael Schumacher’s consecutive run of 5 titles on the fly. With such an illustrious history, everyone would want to own this car! So, if you have some spare “change” lying around in your back pocket, why not try bidding for it?
